If you have a team in your office, you know that it's important to be on the same page. Meetings help to rally your staff, ignite (or rekindle) passion, and make sure you are unified. The last thing you want is for these meetings to be a waste of time! Well, there are a handful of very simple things you can do to insure a WIN. Ultimately, you can learn how to do meetings your team will love.

Tip 1: Pick the Best Types of Meetings

The first step is to figure out which meetings fit you and your team the best. It's important to find that sweet spot where the meetings, meeting times, and duration is just the right. This will help them be effective...and that's the whole point! Take a moment right now and consider what you should consistently communicate, when and how long that might take. This will save you time in the long run.

For example, here are some of the most common types of meetings:

No, you don't have to implement all of these, but it is important to decide which combination will work best for your team. If you only have 1 or 2 employees, doing all of these meetings is probably overkill. Although, with more than 2 staff members and you're going to need to make sure you allow for ample time to strategically communicate. Set aside an allotted amount of time and stick to it!  When they are to the point (more on this next) and productive, they will be meetings your team will love.

Tip #2: Decide The Meeting Purpose

The next tip to have meetings your team will love is to have a clear goal in mind. Be sure to define and communicate what they should cover. For example: key issues your office is facing, upcoming or current needs, team performance, wins for the week, etc. Every time you gather together there should be a purpose. Don't forget you're the leader so it's your job to keep things on track.

Also, be sure to address the hottest issues first so you don't get bogged down without at least hitting crucial topics. For this, I highly recommend having a spreadsheet that keeps a running log of the topics to discuss, action items, who's responsible, and more.  Clarity and consistency always helps for communication.  Also, to keep your team engaged, be sure to ask questions. Allow input, suggestions, and insights. This let's your staff know they are valued and almost always makes them feel some ownership for the business.

Tip #3: Be Prepared

Ok, so this is a no-brainer, right? While this may be the case don't take it for granted. You want your meetings to be purposeful, to the point, and leave people feeling connected and part of a team. This starts with you. Are there handouts you want to share? Do you need facts or stats compiled? Gathering this information ahead of time so it's ready to share will help others see you as the confident (and competent) leader you are.

By the way, you should be tracking and sharing your office metrics. Office visits/week or month, number of new patients/clients, average care plan, retention numbers, etc. The more you can share this, it'll help your team be striving for the same goals

Bottom line, preparation is important for helping create meetings your team will love.
